Last-minute decision pays off

SHOW centre owner Carol Wivell took a rare day off to compete, claiming both the 1.10m amateur second round and 1.15m members cup with her 16-year-old mare, Black Betty.

Carol runs Inchcoonans Equestrian near Perth and made the most of a chance to be in the saddle herself when she headed Tillyoch’s 1.10m qualifier with 8.43sec to spare.

“My plan was to jump the first two fences quietly to get the turns in, but my horse misunderstood and thought I wanted her to trot,” said Carol. “She was so quiet over the first one that we managed to cut inside everywhere after that.
