The last remaining weed gave with a satisfying snap and Holly tossed it onto the pile. Ida had told her she wanted a garden that would glow year round, and tulips, dahlias and begonias would provide vibrant, seasonal colour.
Voices drifted through an open window and Holly tensed, realising the conversation was about her.
‘But, Gran, why pay someone to do something I could do for nothing?’
‘Keep your voice down, Josh,’ Ida scolded. ‘Holly’s working just outside.
