‘I think I was born OPTIMISTIC!’

The interview

Having built a successful catering empire, published cookbooks and judged talented home bakers The Great British Bake Off since 2017, it’s safe to say that Prue Leith is synonymous with fine food. What might surprise you, though, is that at home, the 82-year-old favours simplicity over everything. In fact, on a Sunday evening you’re more likely to find Prue and her husband, John, tucking into something on toast than a full-blown meal.

‘John claims he never has the same meal. ‘Often they end up on toast as if you’re only cooking for two you don’t want it to take forever. I’m much busier than I used to be, I have much less time for doing fancy food. I’ve enjoyed going back to simple things.’
