About this ebook

There’s truly something special about preparing meals for the people who matter in your life. I see that good food can put smiles on their faces, and I consider it an accomplishment that I am able to make people happy with the food I cook.

So, really, this book is for my family, my friends, my supporters, and also everyone who have graciously allowed me to explore and work in their kitchens. This is also for moms, for people living alone, for those who are taking care of other people, and for adventurous and aspiring home cooks—basically everyone who loves food and enjoys preparing them for others like I do.

This cookbook is not only a collection of recipes and tips I gladly share with you, dear reader, but also, and most importantly, a part of who I am.

    Foreword

It came as no surprise to me that when she asked me to write this Foreword, Judy Ann Santos has indeed achieved a milestone in her culinary journey. We instructors who mentored her shared her moments of hardship and achievement as she took on and finished every course in her ladderized program with great determination.

Judy Ann’s Kitchen, her first cookbook, is divided into sections devoted to personal recipes that put another wholesome imprint on Judy Ann’s character—this time in the personality of her home table. The classifications of her cooking comfort food, her cuisine as a wife and a mom, with recipes for easy entertaining, plus a special section on healthy cooking and discoveries all sum up the notable features of the twenty-first-century woman that she is. Despite so many facets and complexities in career, friendships, children, and love, today’s woman can still don an apron and bring a day to a beautiful close by whipping up an admirable meal or even just a dish that comes straight from the heart.

Knowing Judy Ann, this book is just one step to more delicious possibilities in the future. Her school and mentors take great pride and joy in her joining the roster of culinary authors in our country!

    Notes from the author

    Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo

Thank you for getting a copy of my first ever cookbook. I actually can’t believe na may libro na talaga ako! It has always been my dream to come up with a collection of my best recipes and I’m so excited to share them with you.

I’ve been into food for as long as I can remember. I guess my love affair with cooking began as early as when I was seven or eight, as a child actress who would hitch a ride with the caterers early in the morning to go to our location site.

When we were still living in Antipolo, I had memories of my mom serving merienda, such as dinuguan and even simple toasted bread with butter. Ako na ang pinakamasayang bata whenever I helped sprinkle sugar on the bread or when I was asked to roll the malagkit rice flour for my mom’s ginataang bilo-bilo.

Later on, as a single woman, naging mahilig din ako manood ng mga food shows. I would mimic what I saw on TV and make adjustments depending on what ingredients were available in my pantry. Hindi na baleng kulang sa tulog, as long as I was able to cook to my heart’s delight.

Doon ko na-realize na mahilig pala talaga akong magluto. I would always bring food to my tapings and share it with everyone. Maraming pwedeng tumestigo d’yan. I would be thrilled when people told me that I cooked well. It’s especially meaningful to me because it showed another facet to my person—that aside from being an actress, Judy Ann or Juday was also a good cook.

Then there’s something about preparing meals for the people who matter in your life. You can show your love and care for them by simply sharing the food you prepared with your heart. I see that good food can put smiles on their faces, and I consider it an accomplishment that I am able to make people happy with the food that I cook. And, in return, kinikilig akong marinig sa kanila ang mga compliments na, You should put up your own restaurant someday!

But most of all, it was my husband Ryan who believed I should take my passion to the next level. He encouraged me to take up culinary studies. Sobrang intense ang naging program ko sa Center for Asian Culinary Studies that I had to take a break from my acting jobs for six months! But I must say that it was all worth it. Doon ko kasi na-realize that there was so much to be learned, like knife skills, kitchen hygiene practices, the variety of flavors there are, etc.

Thanks to my culinary mentors and the people who have encouraged me to pursue my interest in cooking. Thanks to Chef Gene Gonzalez and his team for the patience and for making our class a very memorable one. Walang bagyo bagyo! Pag may pasok, may pasok! But I must say that it was all worth it. I am now more confident with my cooking skills. I just find so much joy in cooking that between shopping for stylish clothes and being inside a bookstore full of cookbooks, ’yung huli talaga ang pipiliin ko!

Obvious naman siguro ang priorities ko when you browse my Instagram account. Almost every post is about a dish I created or my children. And people usually ask for the recipes, which I was hesitant to share before. But then I realized that this is one way of giving back to all who believed in me.

I wouldn’t have been able to go to culinary school if I didn’t get into show business first. I wouldn’t have been able to pursue my culinary dream if it weren’t for the people who supported me as an actress, a mom, a wife, and an ate through the years.

So, really, this book is for these people—my family, my friends, my supporters, and also my nanay-nanayans sa catering, at mga tatay-tatayan ko sa tapings who graciously allowed me, as a child, to explore their kitchens.

I also dedicate this book to moms, to people living alone, to those who are taking care of other people, and to
