Garden composting is carried out for free by an army of bacteria, fungi, worms, woodlice, molluscs and insects, requiring no extra input at all, and while many local authorities collect garden waste for composting, doing it at home has the added benefit of no ‘compost miles’. Better still, it needs no fuel for processing and produces a valuable (free!) soil improver you can use in your garden.
