Mackenzie makes a difference

IF YOU ever thought you might be too young to make your mark in the world, meet MACKENZIE KNOTT. The nine-year-old from Cape Town recently raised money for Rhino Connect, a charity that protects and conserves rhinos and orphaned calves.

Mackenzie is an enthusiastic cross-country runner and mountain-trail adventurer. This involves hiking, climbing and running through natural terrain like mountains, woods or deserts.

She recently took part in the 13 Peaks Challenge, which sees participants complete trail runs to the top of 13 different mountain peaks around Cape Town. With the help and support of her dad, Grant Knott, and an organisation called Fit 4 Rhinos, which raises funds for rhino orphans in South Africa, Mackenzie summit-ed all 13 peaks in just six days.

In doing so she managed to raise R7 000 for three rhino calves named Joey, Monica and David. The donations were used to buy fat-free
