RCNA Show a Pleasant Cross-Country Trip

Having spent most of July’s third Monday morning at the office, I headed off on a drive to Ottawa to attend the 68th annual Royal Canadian Numismatic Association (RCNA) convention in the afternoon. Following a chiropractor appointment and lunch at Too-Dars Diner – a California burger and salad – it was about 1:20 p.m. when I fired up the Audi, heading off on a northeasterly cross-country tack.

Heading out by way of Shawano and Oconto, I arrived at Marinette-Menominee, where the Menominee River dumps into Green Bay, the border between Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (UP), some two hours and 102 driven miles later. Continuing on a like tack by way of Escanaba, having crossed into the Eastern Time zone, at Rapid River I picked up US-2 eastbound. It was about 6:30 p.m. local time when I called it a day at Manistique’s Gray Wolf Lodge, having logged a 210-mile, four-hour day. Stepping next door for dinner, I treated myself to a fresh baked homemade “pasty,” the UP’s popular Finnish folk food meal.
