Having spent the morning in the office, following lunch down the block at Too-Dars Diner, August’s third Monday afternoon found me hitting the road to the Chicago area shortly after 1 p.m. The balance of the week was spent in Rosemont attending the American Numismatic Association’s 131st anniversary convention, this year’s gathering getting underway a week or ten days later than is typical.
The drive south by way of Milwaukee was uneventful. It was right on 5 p.m. when I closed out a 212-mile drive, as I pulled into the Hyatt Regency O’Hare parking garage. Having registered and settled into my room and called home to advise that I’d made the trip without incident, it was about 6 p.m. when I headed down to the Red Bar off the lobby for something to eat, there joining up with Chicago Coin Club (CCC) members Steve Zitowsky, Bob Leonard, Jeff and Kathy Rosinia, Mark Wieclaw and Dale Lukanich.
On Tuesday morning, a 5:30 call woke me, informing that minutes earlier, a brand new great-grandchild had been born into my world – Henry Clifford Lachin – the parents being granddaughter Natasha and Isaac, her husband.
