James did considerable work to convert distances and target sizes to metric and design the course of fire to be shot on the linear range of Metallic Silhouette Shooting Range at Atlantis in the Western Cape. Apart from all of the preparation work, James self-funded a huge set of gongs and stands to suit the new format.
It was a nice change to shoot on a new range. If shoots are always held on the same range, shooters get to know its tricks and idiosyncrasies and the learning curve flattens out. A special word of thanks to JP De Greeff and his team from WPMSSA to allow us to use their ranges to host the shoot.
A total of over 30 shooters entered and showed up eager to shoot on the morning of Sunday 31 July. James and his helpers had been on the range since before dawn in the cold wet grass due to the previous evening’s downpour. As the sun made its leisurely appearance over the eastern horizon, the white of the gongs against the green background of the winter grass made a spectacular view. After the usual administration and sighting in, shooters were off to an early start.
