DabbaDrop

What is DabbaDrop?

Renée: DabbaDrop is a food delivery subscription service running out of our East London kitchen. We deliver vegan, south-Asian food in reusable stainless steel tiffins, which are called ‘dabbas’ in Hindi.

The deliveries are made on bikes all over London, and our cyclists swap the tiffins every delivery, creating a closed-loop system. DabbaDrop is zero waste and zero emissions. Because we work on a pre-order model, we always know how many people we’re cooking for, eliminating food waste. Since our launch in 2018, we’ve saved over 135,000 plastic containers, and we now feed around 1,000 customers each week.

Where did the idea come from?

R: I used to work in the events industry before I had children. Events tend to happen at night-time, and once I had children, everything changed. I was exhausted, and the night glamour didn’t have the same pull. I longed for a nine-to-five job. But I loved food and wine and all things hospitality—that’s where my skills were.
