WONG MAKING WAVES

Mention the name Jeneath Wong to anyone, whether at elite or club golf level, and they’ll nod thoughtfully and say, “really, really good player, one to watch.” For it seems that the teen has been on everyone’s watch for a long time.

And, in fact she has from the time she arrived in Melbourne from her birth country Malaysia at age 10 to now, still just 17 and about to make her debut at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open before journeying overseas on a prestigious college golf scholarship. But more of that later.

Jeneath was introduced to the game at aged three, like many youngsters by her father.

“He brought me to the driving range in Malaysia, I saw him playing golf and I thought it was pretty cool, so I tried it. And it turns out I have enjoyed it since,” she said.

What fascinated her was the prodigious distance golfers
