Since 2012, I have been building an owner-operated communications company with a focus on media management in order to help businesses and non-state organisations build public awareness of their brands, services, and products.
The trajectory of my career has made it possible for me to develop an understanding of media and its unique production process, acquired in my support and management role in one of South Africa’s largest publishing houses. My cooperative working style enabled me to build long-lasting relationships in the media industry, which have survived decades and have proven useful now that some of my then colleagues have become decision-makers in print and broadcast media in the country.
The media landscape in South Africa has been dealt a few blows recently, ranging from lack of revenue because of diminishing advertising budgets, lack of trained personnel, and continued competition as more players are entering the industry and by adopting the lowest cost threshold created an opportunity for some of my clients. I have built a media matrix that encompasses established national media to get in front of decision-makers and regional media that can be used for calls to action and for selling products.
As more people realise that they must take more responsibility for themselves and their communities to plug the gaps that exist in a country that has an ever-increasing unemployment problem, struggling small business sector, unreliable infrastructure, the demand for optimistic, informative skills building information is an opportunity which I encourage my clients to explore with their content placement in the media.
