As we go to press the Cambridge family is spending holiday time with the Queen in Balmoral. Kate, Charlotte and Louis actually flew to Scotland on a scheduled flight in economy class, causing delight among their surprised fellow passengers.

The Scottish royal estate has always been a precious place for the Queen, where she can feel free from the rigours of public office and prying long lenses.
