HOW TO… PERSONALISE A FOOTBRIDGE KIT

Footbridges. Practical, useful, safety-orientated structures for crossing the railway.

My walk to high school involved using a footbridge, a wrought-iron, lattice affair with wooden sleepers for the steps and decking. The steps had open backs and I was always terrified I’d fall through.

This Metcalfe kit is of a generic, brick-based, wood-framed, glazed-stairways example. It can be made to span two or three tracks, and can be positioned on a platform, or raised up if positioned on the ground. It can also be combined with other kits to make wider bridges spanning more tracks.

The instructions are, as always, comprehensive and the bridge can be made following these with a little care and a minimum of fuss.
