HOW TO… CONSTRUCT A STATION BUILDING

My current layout, ‘Trelothen’, is a fictitious, but plausible, terminus station. It is set on the North Cornwall coastline, between Newquay (GWR) and Padstow (SR). There are branch lines from each of these stations, so the station can receive passenger trains from both companies. Partly funded by the local landowner, Lord Treyanon, the station building’s architecture is somewhat different from the standard railway design.

I looked around and decided I’d like to try the LCUT Creative (B00-04) Country Station building kit in OO. This is not really a full kit, more a bundle of scratch-aid components. There is no glazing material and many of the pieces needed to be trimmed to fit the suggested model.

The bundle comprises of 57 frets and individual parts, many of which have delicate brick edges to allow pieces to be joined. As the parts are more universal than bespoke, the gable ends, roof supports and roof panels are supplied oversized, and needed cutting to
