Modern level crossing
Compared to the venerable Airfix product, Wills Modern Crossing is very much a model for the modern day. Gone are the swinging wooden gates, replaced by lifting arms, complete with skirts dangling down. Signage and security features that speak of a public needing to be discouraged off the tracks by more than good manners and common sense.
While the designers won’t have been knocking out their pipes on the edge of a drawing board like the original Airfix team, they have followed them in producing a flexible kit that can be used in a wide variety of locations. From the box, the model works for a double-track line with two lanes of modern traffic on a scale 34ft-wide road, but it can just as easily accommodate a single-track, or with the addition of more kits, a four-track main line.
