The devil in disguise?

Born in 1944, John Holmes didn’t have an easy upbringing.

Raised in a devout Baptist home, he enlisted in the army at 16, serving in West Germany for three years.

When he was discharged, he moved to California.

Floated from one job to another.

Ambulance driver, shoe seller, forklift driver, door-to-door salesman…

Until one fateful day in 1968, when John had a chance encounter with a photographer in the loos at a poker club.
