Mudgee RISING

Mudgee might just be the perfect place for post-pandemic wine adventures. This heavenly, hill-ringed nest in central-west NSW enjoys elevations from 450m to 1100m, and with generations of winemakers working across diverse microclimates, you ‘re spoilt for choice. “Trying to pigeon hole Mudgee is incredibly difficult,” says winemaker James Manners. “We can make riesling and we can make full-bodied reds. We can do all these Italians varietals, and there are Spanish varietals here as well.”

Mudgee, I discover, is also a lot of fun. It’s fun to taste your way from hillside shipping containers (First Ridge Wines) to gorgeously ramshackle gardens (Slowfox Wines) to pitch-roofed, rammed-earth cellar doors (Yeates Wines).
