riginally founded in 1978, the Japanese Sword Museum aims to share the proud heritage of Japanese swordmaking, design and use with its visitors. First based in the Yoyogi district of Shinjuku ward, Tokyo, the museum’s collection was moved to a larger museum near Ryogoku in 2018. Run by the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords, the museum displays swords as works of art rather than as weapons, and exhibitions emphasise the significant place swords hold in Japan’s cultural history.
