What we now call Old Wembley Stadium was commonly referred to as the 'Home of Football’ and was an iconic stadium for fans across the world. However, it had relatively humble beginnings. The site dates back to the 1880s when it was a countryside retreat for the residents of London known as Wembley Park Leisure Grounds. It featured a football pitch, cricket pitch, running trade, fountains, gardens and other entertainment.
