How old were you when you first saw the original film of Bugsy Malone (1976)? I was 11 when the film came out in 1976 and, for me and millions of children like me, it was love at first sight. All the actors in the movie were my age or thereabouts, and they were having so much fun! Why couldn’t real life be like this?

For the benefit of anyone who’s is an affectionate parody of American gangster films of the 1930s and 1940s, the films ’s British writer and director, the late Alan Parker, grew up watching on Saturday mornings in the 1950s.
