he Lancia 037s driven by Markku Alen and Jean-Claude Andruet are attended during the 1983 Tour de Corse. Lancia dominated the rally – in the early stages its cars filled the top five positions, their rear-wheel-drive characteristics better suiting the Mediterranean island event’s sealed surfaces than the all-wheel traction of championship rival Audi. The final result was a Lancia 1-2-3-4 led by Alen, the only fly in the ointment for the Italian marque being the retirement of Andruet with a terminal engine issue.
