Q My pond water levels keeps dipping, could I have a leak?
A If the level only falls when you have a water feature or fountain running, water loss could be due to splash or pipe leaks. Ponds do lose water by evaporation, particularly if wind accompanies sunny summer weather. However, if the drop in level seems excessive, try placing an open container of water next to the pond. If the pond level drops faster than the container there is probably a leak.
The pond level will eventually settle to the level where the leak is. Sometimes a ping-pong ball placed in the pond will be carried by the miniscule flow, it being very light, leading you to the leak. However, wind might also influence its travel. Once you have located the leak, a repair kit can be used.
