The garden at Chartwell is a place of pure delight in late-April and into May. An area that is a particular favourite of mine at this time of year is around the Gavin Jones Cascade (on your right as you walk down the path from the Visitor Centre). Lady Churchill saw this on display at the Chelsea Flower Show in 1948 and came to an arrangement with designer Gavin Jones for it ‘Rustica Rubra’, ‘Lavender Girl’ and ‘Sappho’.
