CUTTING OFF THE LIFEBLOOD

Bill Flood (Letters, 1 June) implies the public will flock to the defence of our sport if the shooting community moves away from lead shot. The public will, of course, do no such thing, any more than Wild Justice will temper or reduce its attacks on shooting.

This position assumes that lead shot is only used in shotguns. The current proposals from the Government include a ban on the use of lead shot in ALL forms of shooting — that includes small-bore rifles and airguns too. Those involved in these two activities will confirm that non-lead ammunition for small-bore and airguns is simply not viable: it has not proved possible to produce a
