FACTS TO DEAL WITH PREJUDICE

Jamie Blackett mentioned a book by Ian Coghill called Moorland Matters(Country Diary, 29 September). I checked it out online and found it had the subtitle “The battle for the uplands against authoritarian conservation”.

I had scrolled through social media exchanges concerning grouse shooting that could best be described as an aggressive virtual battle where both sides seriously confused prejudicial opinions with scientific facts.

I overcame my distaste for slanging matches and bought the book. I am very glad I did. The author highlights the benefits to conservation in general that moor management brings and it was refreshing to see the case being argued based on facts supported by
