Book review: Every Summer After

better place to find your first love than at the end of a, a love story set on Kamaniskeg Lake, just outside of Barry’s Bay, Ont. From the first chapter, it’s obvious that the writer, former Canadian magazine editor Carley Fortune, deeply understands the cottage experience. She peppers the story with many of the rituals that cottagers treasure: learning to drive a beat-up tinny with a 9.9 hp on the back; a marathon end-of-summer swim across the lake; a secret skinny dip on a sweltering July night. Throw in some will-they-or-won’t-they intrigue and you’ve got the makings of a sizzling summer read. Get thee to the hammock! ($16; )
