THE GOLDEN TRACTOR OF BAGDAD
Tractor enthusiast Doug Lasater and his wife Cheryl live in Bagdad, Florida, which is a community that began in 1840 when a settler named Joseph Forsyth arrived there and set up a sawmill along with his partners.
From there, a lumber mill community was gradually established, with timber being the principal industry in the village. Bagdad is at the confluence of two rivers, the Pond Creek River and the Blackwater River, which made it the perfect spot in which to establish a port. By 1900, Bagdad had shipped more yellow pine lumber than any other port in the world.
Ranching
Doug Lasater’s interest leans more towards yellow tractors than yellow pine, and he is the proud owner of a bright yellow Minneapolis-Moline ZTU. Doug’s story is interesting in that he is one of those lucky people who has managed to find and buy back the tractor that he grew up with, the tractor that his grandfather bought back in 1947.
