WILDFLOWER MEADOW

You will need

■ Grey fabric 1 (centre blocks) – 1yd if you choose to use one fabric (Irene made scrappy blocks, see Cutting out)

■ Grey fabric 2 (Border 1 and Border 3) – ⅞yd

■ Grey fabrics 3 (Border 2 and Border 4) – ⅔yd

■ Green fabric (Border 2 and Border 4) – ⅔yd

■ An assortment of fabric prints for the appliqué

■ Stem fabric** – ½yd approx. or ¼in x 70in approx. for the blocks and ¼in x 140in approx. for Border 3 or bias tape

■ Various Prints (corner squares) – eight (8) 3½in x 3½in

■ Backing Fabric – 3¼yds

Cutting out

1 For the centre blocks, if using one (1) fabric, cut four (4) 16½in x 16½in squares. However, Irene chose to create scrappy blocks for the appliqué (see Figs 1A-1D). Assemble each block by sewing A to B and C to D, then join both these units together. The sizes she used are as follows:

■ Cut the following for Block 1: – One (1) 5½in x 11in piece (A). – One (1) 11½in x 11in piece (B). – One (1) 12in x 6in piece (C). – One (1) 5in x 6in piece (D).
