ENERGY GELS

Energy gels are a triathlete’s best friend. These handy sachets are the middle ground between energy bars and energy drinks, meaning they’re perfect for the run.

Many multisport moons ago, this wasn’t the case as gels resembled Polyfilla, meaning you always had to have water to hand for a smooth swallow. Then SiS created the isotonic gel – essentially, lower viscosity thanks to a higher water content – meaning gels could be taken sans water if needed.

That said, as you’ll read, some gels remain more viscous than others. Which may not be a bad thing if the taste, texture and energy delivery is of a high-enough standard. For those that might need a water hit, just ensure you have a run bottle to hand or a feedzone nearby.
