Second-round stars
MY PAIR of Barnard’s came through the winter of 2010/11 in very good condition. That was obviously in part due to the feeding régime I used, but also because they are stock of excellent quality. And since they had bonded together very well, I was hopeful for some nice quality baby Barnard’s.
As I explained in my previous article, if you supply the nest-box too soon there is the danger that these parakeets will breed when the temperatures are too low, with all the problems that this can cause. For my Barnard’s, I did not provide a nest-box until Saturday, March 12 2011. That was when I had time to stand and watch to see whether there was interest in the box and also to make sure that this new stimulant did not trigger
