A youngster brings a ray of light

T HAS taken me a while, but I’ve finally got a Border chick – although it’s not from my blue hen. Despite her building a nest and laying a clutch of eggs, unfortunately they were all clear. However, one of the pairs I had purchased from Sophie Robertson (see June 8 issue) came up trumps. After a rocky start when the cock chased the hen fairly incessantly, eventually a pair of greens settled down and built a nest – filling it with six eggs. Less good news was that only one was full.
