The Reluctant Restoration

Last month I explained how, while out in my 442, I was involved in a minor collision on a motorway that had the potential to be extremely serious, but luckily ended up only superficially damaging the paintwork on one side of my car and, as a result of this, I decided to have the whole car repainted, something I had been procrastinating over for literally years. Being a 50-year-old car, it wasn’t just a case of flatting down and respraying, as the dreaded tin worm had made its presence known in all the usual places: behind the wheel openings and the bottom of the sills. The only solution was to be a total bare-metal job which after a bit of negotiation and haggling with my insurer (RH Insurance / Tel. 0333 / Tel. 0161 428 7660) who specialise in American vehicles.
