Q Do I need to add rinse aid if my dishwasher detergent already includes it?

—MICHELE H.

Yes, I still recommend it. Detergent with rinse aid in the formula is effective at minimizing spotting and filming, to the chamber beside the one where you place the detergent guarantees that the rinse aid gets dispensed during the rinse cycle, when it’s most effective. It will help remove any remaining bits of food from dishes and glassware, eliminate spotting and filming and improve drying. Using a separate rinse aid is especially important if you live in an area with hard water. Many dishwasher models have settings inside the reservoir to regulate how much rinse aid is dispensed. It’s always best to check your machine’s manual to determine which setting is best for your water’s hardness level. And don’t forget to check your control panel for a light or message to alert you when it’s time to add more rinse aid.
