AY FEVER IS AN over-reaction by your immune system to a normally harmless substance (an allergic reaction). Your immune system identifies the harmless substance, usually a type of pollen or spore from a plant, as dangerous and produces an antibody called immunoglobulin E, which then triggers the production of histamine. It’s histamine that leads to swelling, mucus secretion, itching and burning in localised areas
