Zarafa Blues
This quilt is named for the female Nubian giraffe that lived in the Jardin des Plantes in Paris for 18 years. A gift from Muhammad Ali of Egypt to King Charles X of France, she was one of three giraffes Muhammad Ali sent to European rulers in 1827.
This quilt features Snowball blocks and fussy cut octagons set around a centre panel featuring fussy cut octagons and setting seams.

• 1.1m (1¼yd) cream tone-on-tone print fabric• 30cm (⅜yd) light-medium blue print fabric (large star in centre panel)• 30cm (⅜yd) blue and gold spot print fabric (small star in centre panel and other shapes)• 20cm (¼yd) blue and white spot print fabric (feature print frames)• 13 fat quarters of assorted blue print fabrics• 75cm (⅞yd) dark blue print fabric (border and binding)• Feature print fabric — you need sufficient to be able to* by Christopher Wilson Tate for Moda• 3.5m (3⅞yd) backing fabric• Batting at least 170cm (67in) square• Template plastic and fine-point permanent-marking pen• Cardboard• Rotary cutter, quilter’s ruler and mat• Sewing machine with ¼in foot• General sewing supplies
