RISE UP!

When Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, many in the skating fraternity rallied to offer assistance to the skaters from that nation.

While those who competed at the Olympic Winter Games should have been celebrating, instead they were hiding in basements as bombs dropped around them, dodging bullets, and looking for a way to escape.

Less than a month later, five Ukrainian skaters and one coach stood on a stage at the World Championships in Montpellier, France, as the audience rose to its feet to applaud their courage and to let them know the world was on their side.

Many in the audience also showed their support by waving Ukrainian flags and holding “We Stand With You” posters.

Their presence at the competition was yet another reason to applaud the tenacity
