OLYMPIC TRAILBLAZER PASSES

A lexandr Gorshkov, the 1976 Olympic ice dance champion with partner Liudmila Pakhomova, passed away on Nov. 17 at age 76. The official cause of death was listed as myocardial infarction.

Born in Moscow on Oct. 8, 1946, Gorshkov first took up skating at age 6. In 1965 he began his ice dance career and, following a short-lived partnership with Irina Nechkina, teamed up with Pakhomova.
