THE WAR AT HOME

WHEN NEWS BROKE in late February that Russia had launched a military invasion in Ukraine, sparking a war in Europe and prompting millions of Ukrainians to flee their homes, many in the United States watched the news in horror. For some St. Louisans, the war hits especially close. Ukrainians and members of St. Louis’ Russian-speaking community organized demonstrations, donations, and vigils as they checked in with family and friends back home. Here, three St. Louisans with ties to the country reflect on the events unfolding in Ukraine.
