Just add water
THOSE who by chance or design have streams, ponds or any moist places in their gardens are indeed fortunate, for a host of delightful plants can be grown in these areas with ease, and very little preparation of the planting sites is necessary. Many plants revel in such conditions, some liking full sun, others partial shade. Formal pools can be constructed to grow the lovely nymphaeas (water lilies) and many other purely aquatic plants.
Where necessary, beds can be dug over, adding leafmould or manure when this is available. I find that many plants love to grow in the herbage usually associated with) will provide a splendid display at this time of year, especially when naturalised with the Lent lily (). This daffodil, a British native, loves moist stream sides in open, sunny situations.
