Grilled Barbecue Chicken Tenders

This tangy homemade sauce takes your average grilled tenders from good to great.

1 cup water
1¼ cups apple cider vinegar, divided
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper, divided
1 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
¾ teaspoon ground black pepper, divided
2 pounds chicken tenders
⅓ cup ketchup
3 tablespoons firmly packed light brown sugar
1 teaspoon hot sauce
