A headline in a Bay of Plenty publication during late February identified a growing discomfort in many communities with the actions of some people and their vehicles… “Lake Rotomā 4WD behaviour still an issue”.

A spokesperson for the Te Arawa Lakes Trust commented: “Changing the mindsets of those who have enjoyed 4WD and vehicle access to Lake Rotomā will be challenging and prohibiting 4WD and vehicle access is a temporary fix.”

It was pleasing to note the reference to a ‘temporary fix’, however very often those temporary solutions evolve into long-term access closures.
