AUNT ELLA’S QUILT

You will need

• Cream fabric – 35/8yds
• Four red prints – ½yd for three of them and 5/8yd for the fourth print
• Four dark blue prints – ½yd each
• Four pink prints – ½yd each
• Three light blue prints – ¼yd each
• One dark grey print – ¼yd
• One light charcoal print – ½yd
• One medium charcoal print – ½yd
• Binding fabric – 5/8yd
• Backing fabric – 4½yds
• Batting – 80in x 80in
• ¼in Quilting Bias bars
• Appliqué glue pen
• Appliqué paper**
• Templates (see Templates section)

Finished size

• Quilt size: 72in x 72in
• Finished centre appliqué block

size: 24in x 24in

• Finished side appliqué blocks size: 12in x 12in
• Finished large, pieced blocks: 12in x 12in
• Finished small, pieced blocks: 6in x 6in

Notes

• HST = half-square triangle.
• *Australian Muslin is similar to craft weight cotton in the UK
• **Deirdre uses a semi water soluble Appliqué paper which remains in the quilt once complete. Freezer paper could be used but must be removed before layering up the quilt to complete it.

Cutting out

1 From the cream fabric, cut as follows:

■ One (1) 25½in x WOF strip, subcut into one (1) 25½in square for the centre appliqué block. From the remainder of this strip cut one (1) 13½in square for one (1) of the side appliqué blocks.

■ One (1) 13½in x WOF strip and then from this cut three (3) 13½in squares for the remaining side appliqué blocks.

■ Nine (9) 2½in x WOF strips for the four-patch units of the 12in blocks.
