HORNE OF PLENTY

During his time in motorsport, Barry Horne has raced, operated his own team and coached drivers. Dunfermlinebased, he also heads up Team Parker Racing’s Carrera Cup GB and Sprint Challenge GB outfits as Team Manager, helping to deliver a remarkable fifteen championship titles in the past five seasons alone. His story has much more depth to it than this, however, with links to Team Parker Racing going back more than two decades. To find out more, we asked Barry how he got involved in motorsport and what led him to the role he undertakes today.

“I was about eight years old,” he recalls. “My dad wanted me to have a go at karting. I went along and watched some events, but to be honest, I wasn’t particularly interested. I took another look at karting when I was in my midteens and had a play in a 100cc two-stroke. Contrary to the attitude of my younger self, I thought the experience was brilliant. Shortly afterwards, I entered my first race and things just grew arms and legs from there.”

After enjoying success in various Scottish karting championships, Barry decided to spread his racing wings. “Things got serious when I entered British championships,” he tells us. “I’d travel from Scotland down to England and back, doing my best, enjoying the racing. There was never really a plan. I simply took each season as it came and tried to have as much fun as
