Ned Roberts’ third album, Dream Sweetheart, opens on the bucolic strings of , which fan out into a slow, steady beat. The London-based singer-writer’s light vocals complement gorgeous guitar textures throughout. Cut in LA, the set continues his fruitful pairing with producer Luther Russell and draws on a panoply of sonic ingredients, including the cicada chirping behind and the train running through . Others, such as are instant charmers. No wonder the UK press and 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne are fans, especially if you’re already a fan of Tim Hardin or Nick Drake, with whom Roberts’ music), a small excess that’s easily forgiven.
