FODMAP Friendly

Low-FODMAP diets have seen a surge in recent years — and with good reason. Approximately 6.4 million Australians suffer from food intolerances of some kind. Changing what we eat can make us feel good; not just physically but emotionally too. But what exactly is a low-FODMAP diet and who is it best suited to?

FODMAP stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols — short-chain carbohydrates (sugars) that are challenging for the small intestine to digest. In some people, this can result in digestive distress and cause an array of conditions that range from mild bloating to severe cramping, gas and pain as experienced by sufferers of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).

Choosing a low-FODMAP diet can help alleviate or even eliminate these symptoms altogether. Eating foods proven not to trigger IBS can result in better gut health and better emotional health too.

But choosing low-FODMAP products can be a challenge. That’s where the FODMAP Friendly certification trademark comes in. This certification is a global registration for low-FODMAP packaged foods. Foods that qualify for this certification are tested for their FODMAP levels and identified by an approved and regulated criteria to be labelled as FODMAP Friendly at a NATA accredited laboratory based in Australia.

When someone with IBS sees the FODMAP Friendly logo, they know they can eat with confidence. This logo is a beacon to help people who have been advised to follow a low-FODMAP diet easily identify and select suitable foods, making their shopping time that much easier.

In the pages that follow, we’ve showcased some of our favourite FODMAP Friendly accredited suppliers. Learn more about their FODMAP Friendly products and find out more about some of the benefits they can offer you.
