Q&A

Jon Ingold

Co-founder and creative director, Inkle

Did you ever consider making this game a spin-off from one of Inkle’s previous titles?

One of the things that the team was suggesting, that universe. I was really against it, though, because I felt like they’re very tonally different games. And people who would be expecting more would be a bit like, ‘What’s this murder-on-a-boat game?’, while people who don’t remember might say, ‘Oh, well, I didn’t play , so I’m not interested in it’. So I kind of fought back against that. But I think really, fundamentally, if it had been an game, then the steward would have to be a robot or something. You can’t not do that. I still would love to return to the world at some point, and we do have a sketched idea for that, but we’ve never pushed it through.
