REEDIN SUPERWINGX

It seems like we’re entering the materials race for inflatable wings at the moment. Talk to us about the origins of X-ply and how you’ve integrated it in the SuperWing X…

I have been designing wings for about three years now and as soon as I started to implement tensioned canopy designs two years ago, I realized that we had too much stretch in the regular polyester canopy material, so the wings were losing their shape too much. My solution to that is improving the panelling by making vertical seams, which works quite well, but there is a limit to it.

I then approached our different material suppliers and started testing stiffer materials. Very rapidly I oriented my choice toward windsurf inspired materials like
