Putin says he is proceeding with military operation in Ukraine; explosions reported
SHCHASTIA, Ukraine — Moments after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced late Wednesday that he would proceed with a military operation in Ukraine, several loud explosions were heard outside Kyiv.
The explosions, reported by CNN, came after Putin said in a televised address that he was conducting a military operation to protect civilians in response to what he called threats coming from Ukraine.
Putin warned other countries to stay out of the conflict or risk “consequences they have never seen.”
Following Putin’s statement, President Joe Biden condemned Russia’s actions and said he would meet with other world leaders Thursday to discuss a response.
“The prayers of the entire world are with the people of Ukraine tonight as they suffer an unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces,” Biden said. “President Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering. Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States
