It’s rare to meet someone who’s good at something but doesn’t enjoy it — whether it’s the lad in the pub who reigns supreme on the dartboard or the city boy on the hill whose castle is his grouse butt. If we become better Shots, we enjoy it more, and we owe it to our quarry to be as handy as we can. You don’t want to spend all day pricking partridges that you should be killing, not least because you’ll become very unpopular with the picking-up team.
